Early Career Challenges
Karan started his career with the TV show “Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi.” He shared that it was a difficult time, stating, “It was very heartbreaking and depressing because you have this image about yourself, and then you come into the real world.” He added that he found it hard to navigate through the initial phase of his television career, saying, “There are so many people coming into the industry every day, and it’s tough to stand out”.
Bipasha Basu’s Influence
Karan Singh Grover’s life took a significant turn when he met his wife, Bipasha Basu, on the sets of their horror film “Alone.” He credits her with helping him connect with his real self, saying, “Bipasha helped me understand and connect with the real me. I have another profession (painting) because of her.” He also mentioned that she has been instrumental in his personal and professional growth, stating, “If I hadn’t met Bipasha, I don’t think I’d be here. She is the kind of person who is in a constant state of giving”.

Painting as a Second Profession
Karan has also explored his passion for painting, which he started almost seven years ago. He has made over 600 paintings so far and has even had his work exhibited. He shared that his wife encouraged him to pursue painting professionally, saying, “She told me to give it a shot. When I met art curator Natasha Jaisingh, she explained the importance of painting daily and how I could get better at my work. Her feedback really helped”.
Impact of Fatherhood
Becoming a father has had a profound impact on Karan’s life and art. He mentioned that his daughter, Devi, has added depth to his work, saying, “When we got pregnant, an artist friend told me that whenever a baby comes into our lives, things change and it reflects in our art as well. That did happen, as I made stuff that wasn’t exactly my style. The arrival of Devi and her energy helped unlock parts of my DNA. She’s a gift and her presence added depth to my art”.
International Exhibitions
Karan expressed his desire to exhibit his artwork internationally, stating, “Besides India, I want to exhibit my work internationally too, because a lot of my paintings have been embraced by people in the US. Since I don’t come from an art background and I’m self-taught, it becomes difficult to be accepted in the fraternity, but I continue with my efforts every single day”.
